Injured Climber Rescued near Trout Creek Campground

On October 20, 2023, at approximately 12:30 p.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with Jefferson County Fire and EMS, responded to a call regarding an injured climber in the vicinity of Trout Creek Campground.


The climber, a 41-year-old female, sustained an ankle injury while rock climbing. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies employed a Search and Rescue Side by Side vehicle to facilitate the transport of medical personnel to the base of the cliff. Upon arrival, the patient was assessed for her injuries.


Other hikers in the area provided medical assistance to the injured climber while awaiting the arrival of professional medical personnel.


The injured patient, who was from Washington State, was located approximately 500 yards above Trout Creek Campground in steep terrain. First responders carried her to the base of the hill. From there, she was transported to her vehicle, where friends and family were present and ready to take her to the hospital. It's worth noting that the patient declined further medical treatment.


The coordinated efforts of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Fire and EMS, and the assistance of fellow hikers played a crucial role in ensuring the successful resolution of this incident.
